Belem Tower

Lisbon, Portugal

The Belem Tower is a pretty cool old fortress sitting on the river in the small town of Belem just west of Lisbon.  Unfortunately, the only day we could visit was on New Year’s and it was closed.  I would have loved to go inside and explore, even though it isn’t very large.  You can buy a combination ticket with the Jeronimos Monastery down the street.  I think the combo would be well worth it if you are in Lisbon.  Make sure to stop and get the most amazing egg tarts at Pasteis de Belem just east of the monastery.

During the right time of the year, this would be a great composition for the sunset with the sun setting behind the tower.  When I was there, the sun would have been setting a bit too far to the east to make a great composition here.
